Dazzlingly talented newcomer Maggie Stiefvater brought readers a powerful supernatural love story in Shiver, a chilling, beautifully crafted novel brings two teenagers together against all odds. Now she takes her tale to greater heights in LINGER!
“Maggie Stiefvater will have her fans howling at the moon with LINGER, the second book in the series she started with Shiver! It’s the continuing tale of Grace and Sam, girl meets boy…boy turns out to be a werewolf. She makes the transformations to wolf so realistic and believable, and knows how to write to make you want more, more, more! It was hard to put down.” — Carl Wichman, NDSU Bookstore, Fargo, ND
Praise for SHIVER:
“Oh. My. Goodness…I got totally sucked in, took most of Sunday to read the second half, and bawled through the last fifty pages. Teenage girls are going to love this!! I’m going to pass [this] on to one my colleagues tomorrow so she and her 15-year-old daughter can read it. I’m going to include a kleenex for each of them.”
– Kathy Adams, Education Specialist, Valley Bookseller, Stillwater, MN“A lyrical tale of alienated werewolves and first love… Stiefvater skillfully increases the tension throughout; her take on werewolves is interesting and original while her characters are refreshingly willing to use their brains to deal with the challenges they face.” -Publishers Weekly, starred review
“Readers will be able to enjoy Stiefvater’s fast-paced storytelling and dedication to the old-fashioned art of creating a believable and enduring romance. Shiver is beautifully written, even poetic at times, and a perfect indulgence for readers of all ages.” -Bookpage.com

ABOUT THE BOOK
Sam, who spent most of his life as a werewolf, has undergone an unlikely cure and no longer transitions between fur and skin as the temperature changes from cold to hot. This should be a happy time for Sam and true-love Grace, but just as he begins to trust his new human life, Grace feels her humanity slipping away. Sam’s focus is split between worry for Grace and his role as caretaker of the werewolf pack, which for the first time in years includes new members.
Stiefvater continues what she started in Shiver, and readers will definitely want to read it before diving into this equally appealing sequel. As in the opener, this story’s tension stems from watching sympathetic characters cope with what appears to be a hopeless situation. Although this was resolved to a point by the first book’s ending, this follow-up flips that resolution on its head and sets up a situation that leaves readers hanging in anticipation for the next installment.
book description from Booklist review
“My big literary influences for Shiver were Crow Lake and The Time Traveler’s Wife, because they tell quiet, bittersweet love stories.”
–Maggie Stiefvater
Maggie Stiefvater is a twenty-eight year old writer, artist, and musician. Her debut novel, Lament: The Faerie Queen’s Deception, was published by Flux in 2008, and followed by Ballad in 2009. She lives in rural Virginia with her husband and their two young children. For more information please visit Maggie at www.maggiestiefvater.com.
More from Maggie herself:
All of my life decisions have been based around my inability to be gainfully employed. Talking to yourself, staring into space, and coming to work in your pajamas are frowned upon when you’re a waitress, calligraphy instructor, or technical editor (all of which I’ve tried), but are highly prized traits in novelists, musicians, and artists (I’ve made my living as one of these since I was 22).
I now live an eccentric life in the middle of nowhere, Virginia, with my charmingly straight-laced husband, two small kids, two neurotic dogs, one criminally insane cat, and a 1973 Camaro named Loki.
I’m an avid reader, an award-winning colored pencil artist, and play several musical instruments, including the Celtic harp, the piano, and the bagpipes. I also make great cocktail party conversation.
