Midwest Indie Bookstore Map
The Midwest Indie Bookstore Map is a promotional tool designed to increase awareness about the many successful independent bookstores in MIBA's region, with the ultimate goal of driving sales to brick and mortar stores.
Working with illustrator Kevin Cannon, MIBA's Indie Bookstore Map will feature both member and nonmember stores--about 150 stores total. Member stores will be featured on the map with custom illustrations, while a generic bookstore illustration will indicate nonmember stores. The map only includes stores that sell frontlist titles, and which are located in MIBA's region. It will not be to scale, but will feature basic landmarks and highway systems for user-friendly orientation. All store names, addresses, and contact info will be included on the back.
MIBA will produce an estimated 20,000 copies of the map (as many as we can afford to) and distribute them to bookstores to hand out to customers beginning on Independent Bookstore Day. Bookstores will continue to make maps available throughout the rest of the year as supplies permit.
The map will encourage customers to post pictures of themselves in a featured bookstore, using the #IndieBookstore hasthag and taggint @MidwestBooks and the bookstore. Each month, MIBA will select a random photo as that month's winner, and will send that customer a $25 gift card to the store pictured. There is no limit to the number of pictures a customer can submit in any month or throughout the year. If any customer submits a photo featuring every bookstore on the map, they will be entered into a drawing for a $500 gift card to a bookstore of their choice.
The back of the Midwest Indie Bookstore Map will feature full-color ads in the following sizes and formats:
(6.75” h x 4.15”w)
(3.25”h x 4.15”w)
¼ Panel Landscape
(1.5”h x 4.15”w)
¼ Panel Portrait
(3.25”h x 1.95”w)
Ad space is limited to 8 ads per type, and will be rewarded on a first-come, first-served basis. These ads are consumer-facing, so should highlight books available for purchase as of 4/28/2018. Since it’s a year-round promotion, we encourage interested publishers to use this opportunity to advertise a backlist title or book they intend to promoted for the entire calendar year. More importantly, given that this is a regional promotion, we encourage interested publishers to advertise titles that have a strong regional connection. Publishers are welcome to advertise more than one title in each ad.
Ad Specs: Ads must be either vector or high-resolution (minimum 300 dpi), CMYK, preferably in PDF format but psd, jpg, tiff, ai, and png formats are acceptable. Powerpoint and Microsoft Word docs will NOT be accepted.
