Book Vault (Oskaloosa, IA) is hiring a full-time General Manager. The General Manager is instrumental in overseeing the daily operations of the store, ensuring an engaging customer experience, providing financial oversight, and leading a small staff. To be successful, you will continue to honor the customer’s experience while strengthening its future by maintaining its diverse inventory, generating excitement with events and activities, and enhancing relationships with the community. The ideal candidate is a jack-of-all-trades, empowered to make decisions, enjoys having creative freedom, and leads by example.
What you need to be successful:
- Previous management experience in a book industry setting or similar-sized business
- Passion for literature and developing ideas to engage the community
- Entrepreneurial spirit and the desire to innovate and manage this business like it was their own
- Strong communication skills across multiple channels including verbal, written, and social media
- Understand product promotions, sales, and marketing strategies, and customer service techniques to increase sales
- Excellent time management and problem-solving skills
- Determine the store’s overall product mix and orders merchandise accordingly
- Work with owners and team to develop the annual budget and evaluate operations to improve financials
- Ensure cleanliness, safety, accessibility, and maintenance of the store’s physical space by leveraging effective communication
- Maintain necessary store technology, equipment, and overall space.
- Represent the store to the public, media, local business community, and book industry
- Create and implement marketing strategies, events, and promotions designed to increase customer traffic
- Identify partnership opportunities with local clubs and organizations to drive sales
- Author a monthly customer newsletter and manage the store’s website and social media
- Create a positive, collaborative, and service-centered work environment for staff of 8-10 that aligns with the Book Vault handbook
- Partner with an accounting firm for key financial operations, customer billing, AP, consignment payment reports, credit card chargebacks and issues, vendor payments, payroll, record keeping, etc.
- Create and manage staff schedules and payroll, deliver training for operational procedures, and review workplace policies.
- Starting annual salary of $45,000
- 40 hours of PTO + accrual of 6.67 hours each month
