Artwork Requests & Changes

The information you submitted has been sent to Kevin Cannon. He’ll create your artwork and notify MIBA staff once ready. All files will be emailed to you. Until you hear from MIBA staff, you do not need to do anything else. Artwork can take up to 2-4 weeks to complete, and longer when we’re developing the Roadmap.

If you’d like to use your new store artwork for digital promotions before your grand opening, please submit your form at least 4 weeks before your opening date.

If you’re still making exterior changes/additions, please wait to submit your form until everything is in place like signage, exterior plants, decorations, or anything you’d like represented in your artwork.

New artwork can be purchased at this page, for a fee of $100. You will submit a new artwork form with images, links and an updated address. The form link will be in your purchase confirmation email. You'll receive the 4 standard files for digital promotions once complete.

Revisions to existing artwork can be purchased at this page, for a fee of $50. You will submit an updated artwork form with your desired changes.

Please note, this product is for small updates, like adding a new logo or a fun accessory, like your store pet. If you’re unsure if your change fits this product please contact Melissa.

We kindly ask that artwork requests or questions come directly to MIBA staff rather than contacting him directly. This helps us manage workload fairly across all member stores and keeps things consistent for everyone.

Typically 2-4 weeks, however when we are developing the Midwest Indie Bookstore Roadmap, orders are paused from the end of February through April.

Yes! The following products are available for purchase. Find all options in our Products & Services area.

  • Classic Color Refresh - If your artwork currently uses the classic colors, you can embrace the updated look on the current Roadmap. This quick and easy color refresh gives your existing artwork a vibrant, contemporary feel—while keeping the spirit of the original design you love.
  • Vector Files - Get all the files you need for creating high-quality, store-branded materials at any size or resolution. Vector images include your city in Kevin Cannon's handwritten style and are used for more substantial or detailed jobs, such as T-shirts, posters, stickers, etc.

Artwork Files & Branding

Kevin intentionally uses a limited palette for MIBA caricatures. As a result, drawings will rarely match the exact color of your store or branding.

In order to make store art (especially text) pop out on the map, Kevin uses high contrast colors, even when a store's actual branding may have a more subtle color palette.

Stores that want their MIBA art to better match their store's color palette are encouraged to purchase a vector package of their art. Stores have free rein to recolor or adjust their MIBA art for personal or commercial use.

To change colors, you’ll need vector editing software such as Adobe Illustrator or a free program like Inkscape or Vectr. Basic familiarity with these tools—like selecting objects and adjusting fill colors—is typically enough. If you’re not comfortable using design software, a graphic designer can easily make these updates for you.

Vector files! Get all the files you need for creating high-quality, store-branded materials at any size or resolution. Images include your city in Kevin Cannon's handwritten style and are used for more detailed jobs, such as T-shirts, posters, stickers, etc. The package includes the following files:

  • ai files: color and B&W
  • eps files: color and B&W
  • hi-res jpegs: color and B&W

Contact Melissa for artwork files. And if you are making changes to the store (name, signage, logo, etc.) please purchase an artwork revision to have those changes made.

Bookstore Roadmap

If you joined the association or renewed your membership by February 1 of the current year, whether a storefront or a pop-up model, you will be included on this year's roadmap.

Yes! All bookstores in good standing will receive maps to their store. Please make sure your shipping address is correct in your profile.

Maps are typically delivered the week before Indie Bookstore day. Once they arrive you can distribute roadmaps whenever you are ready.

Members can purchase discounted packages of 10 or 50 Roadmaps through our Products & Services page.

Yes! All digital assets can be accessed here, and if you’re looking for something specific please contact us.

Our Roadmap is not directly affiliated with IndieBound or the official Independent Bookstore Day website. This is a MIBA created marketing tool for our member stores to celebrate IBD and drive year long store promotion.

Yes! Promote your bookstore, summer event, OR your entire community. Book a joint add for your town with the help of your community partners. We offer a limited number of spots annually. Contact Grace Hagen if you are interested in advertising on the next map.

Roadmap Contest

We have an internal tracker that captures Instagram submissions. At the beginning of the month, we randomly select one winner from the previous month’s submissions to win the $50 gift card. The bookstore is contacted with the details and reimbursement process.

We’ve created assets for you to use! Find them at this page and feel free to download to use in your store or across social media.

To make the contest easier to manage and ensure entries are tracked accurately, submissions are now limited to Instagram. Instagram allows us to automatically collect entries, verify participation, and ensure bookstores are properly tagged. Using Instagram helps us keep the process smooth, fair, and consistent for both members and participants.
